Happy Endings

This project is a collaboration exploring the translations of concepts and narratives between various representations. Film stills were taken from the final scenes of movies with happy endings, as well as the last lines of dialogue. With the image out of focus and the lines spoken as one continuous stream from a computer voice, the individual narratives of the films merge. With the context removed, the project emphasizes the structure of film and narrative. Demonstrating the increasing accessibility to digital editing technologies, these works echo the cultural phenomenon of widespread appropriation. Through film, pop culture, and the Internet, personal and cultural narratives are reformed and retold. Each layer of representation adds another layer of significance to the narrative. Humanity’s story is inseparable from the technologies used to tell the story itself.
