The Gloria Project
The Gloria Project is a collaborative project that explores relationships between visual art, music, pop culture, technology, and the Internet. The name Gloria has a long history in music. From religious hymns to rock and roll songs, Gloria means strength, sexuality, exaltation, and the greatest of desires. In this project, profile pictures of Glorias from Myspace have been digitally turned into sheet music. The pixel colors determined the musical notes, using the color music system developed by the eighteenth-century French mathematician Louis-Bertrand Castel. With references to the organic as well as the mechanical and the natural as well as the artificial, this body of work ties various representations and contexts of Gloria together in a new form.
